Pharmaceutical Latin: Fructus Crataegi


English Name: Crataegus Fruit, Hawthorn Fruit, Hawthorn Berry, Asian Hawthorn Fruit, Mountain Hawthorn


Property:

Sour, Sweet;

Slightly Warm;

Spleen, Stomach, Lung meridians


Function:

Help digestion and relieve food retention; promote Qi and resolve Blood-stasis; deworming (tapeworm)


Indication:

Traditionally used for food rentention, abdominal distension and/or pain, diarrhea, dysentery, dysmenorrhea or amenorrhea (due to Blood stagnation), postpartum abdominal pain, prolonged lochia, Indigestion in children, etc.

Nowadays, it is also used for coronary heart disease, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, bacillary dysentery, etc.

ShanZha contains high calories, and contains a lot of carotene, calcium, carbohydrates, maslinic acid, pectin and so on. The content of vitamins in ShaZha is extremely high, second only to red dates and kiwi fruit, and the content of carotene and calcium is also quite high. The flavonoids, vitamin C, carotene and other substances contained in Shanzha can block and reduce the generation of free radicals, enhance the immunity, and have anti-aging and anti-cancer effects. It has high nutritional and medical value. For the elderly, eat hawthorn products regularly can help to increase appetite, improve sleep quality, maintains Calcium Levels, prevent atherosclerosis, and so on. Hence, ShanZha is considered as "longevity food".


Dosage:

For decoction: 3-12g; Maximum 30g.

For external using: decoct first, then wash or soak; Or, grind first, then apply directly

For relieving food retention and promoting Blood, the unprocessed (Sheng ShanZha) is better. While for arresting diarrhea, the burnt (Jiao ShanZha) is better.


Caution:

Be caution for patient with Spleen deficiency.


Formula | Bao He Wan (Preserve Harmony Pill)

Ingredients:

ShanZha 60g ShenQu 20g

FuLing 30g BanXia 30g

ChenPi 10g LianQiao 10g

LaiFuZi 10g


Functions:

Strengthen Spleen, harmonize Stomach, and resolve food retention

It can be used to:

• Epigastric and abdominal distention (bloating) and fullness with intermittent pain

• Acid regurgitation, belching, nausea and vomiting, and loss of appetite.

• Constipation or Diarrhea.


Clinical indication:

Mainly used for: Acute gastroenteritis; Acute exacerbations of chronic gastroenteritis; Chronic/Acute hepatitis; Chronic/Acute pancreatitis; Atrophic gastritis; Obesity; Insomnia; Chronic/Acute cholecystitis; Gastric hyperacidity; Peptic ulcer; Celiac disease; Gastrointestinal influenza, etc.


Food therapy | Shanzha porridge

Ingredients:

Hawthorn Fruit 30-40g

Rice 100g

Sugar few


Function:

It can strengthen Spleen and Stomach, relieve food retention, and promote Qi and Blood.

It’s suitable for high blood pressure, coronary heart disease, angina pectoris, hyperlipidemia, food rentention, stomach and/or abdominal pain, diarrhea, and indigestion in children, etc.

別名:红果子、棠棣子、山里红果、酸枣、映山红果、海红、酸梅子、山梨、酸查等

英文名:Hawthorn Fruit


性味歸經:

味酸甘;性微溫;無毒

歸脾、胃、肝經。


功效: 消食健胃,行气散瘀,驱绦虫。


用途:

傳統上用於飲食積滯,脘腹脹痛,泄瀉痢疾,血瘀痛經,閉經,產後腹痛,惡露不盡,小儿乳食停滞等。

現代單用山楂製劑治療冠心病、高血壓病、高血脂症、細菌性痢疾等,均有較好的療效。

山楂含有較高的熱量,含有大量的胡蘿蔔素、鈣質、碳水化合物、山楂酸、果膠等。山楂中維生素的含量極高,僅次於紅棗和獼猴桃,此外胡蘿蔔素和鈣的含量較高。山楂所含的黃酮類和維生素C、胡蘿蔔素等物質能阻斷並減少自由基的生成,能增強機體的免疫力,有防衰老、抗癌的作用。有很高的營養和醫療價值。因老年人常吃山楂製品能增強食慾,改善睡眠,保持骨和血中鈣的恆定,預防動脈粥樣硬化,使人延年益壽,故山楂被人們視為“長壽食品”。


用法用量:

• 內服:煎湯,3-10g,(也可大劑量用至30g);或入丸、散。

• 外用:適量,煎水洗或搗敷。

生山楂用於消食散瘀,焦山楂用於止瀉止痢。


禁忌:脾胃虛弱者慎服。


方 | 保和丸

製法用量:

山楂60克 神麯20克 茯苓30克 半夏30克 陳皮10克 連翹10克 萊菔子10克

大蜜丸,每丸重9克。口服,每次1~2丸,一日2次;小兒酌減


功效:

消食導滯、健脾和胃。

治療食積停滯證。脘腹脹滿,噯腐吞酸,不欲飲食、噁心嘔吐、或大便泄瀉、舌苔厚膩,脈滑。

本方雖以消導為主,但藥性平和,對不思飲食者,可配合益氣健脾之品長期使用。


現代應用:

本方促進胃排空,促進消化,改善胃腸功能。用於飲食傷脾胃所致之腹瀉、不思飲食、慢性胃腸炎。


膳 | 山楂粥

材料:

山楂30~40克,粳米100克,冰糖適量。

山楂切片,去核,與粳米共煮粥,粥將熟時加入冰糖,調勻即成。


功效:

健脾胃,消食積,散淤血。適用於高血壓、冠心病、心絞痛、高脂血症以及食積停滯、腹痛、腹瀉、小兒乳食不消等。
